Young Parents Education Program
The YPEP program provides pregnant and parenting students with the opportunity to complete their education in a supportive, flexible environment that is designed to allow students to bring their babies to class with them.

Overview
Foundation college Offers two Young Parents Programs; Peninsula and Casey. At both campuses, students undertake either the Victorian Pathways Certificate or Vocational Major, with practical parenting, maternal and child health, financial, relationship and legal topics added to the curriculum to help support parents build a wide range of knowledge and skills that will help them be the best parent they can be.
Peninsula Campus: The Learn Engage Connect Young Parent’s Education Program, lead by the Frankston Mornington Peninsula LLEN, has joined forces with Foundation College to provide a comprehensive education platform to cater to the unique needs of young parents juggling parenthood and academic aspirations.
Casey Campus: Foundation College is working with the Young Mothers Transition Program from the Southeast LLEN, to support young parents in the continuation of their education.

The YPEP is an inclusive and flexible Learning model for pregnant and parenting young people to complete their education through studying the Victorian Pathways Certificate or the VCE Vocational Major.
Students are encouraged to bring their babies or young children into class while studying, allowing young parents to bond with their child as they complete their education. The learning space is designed to support optimal learning for both parent and child. Please contact the college to confirm the age range of babies and young children supported in this program.
On site Wellbeing support and visits from Maternal Health Nurses as well as access to specialised parenting programs build a rich and inclusive community for young parents and babies alike. Each class is supported by a qualified teacher, a learning support staff member, and a dedicated wellbeing professional.
The curriculum is written with young people in mind and incorporates parenting skills and knowledge, as well as exploring our community and world through project based learning. Building employability skills, problem solving and developing a sense of competence as a learner are key areas of our program. We encourage students to achieve success in a supported setting where both student and baby are supported to thrive!
The Victorian Pathways Certificate can be completed from 1-2 years.
To be eligible to receive the VPC, students must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 12 units, including at least:
- 4 units of VPC Literacy
- 2 units of VPC Numeracy
- 2 units of VPC Work Related Skills
- 2 units of VPC Personal Development Skills
- 2 VET credits at Certificate I level or above (180 nominal hours)
The VCE Vocational Major is delivered over 2 years, which includes Year 11 level and Year 12 level.
To be eligible to receive the full VCE VM, students must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 16 units, including at least:3 VCE VM Literacy or VCE English units (including a Unit 3–4 sequence)
- 2 VCE VM Numeracy or VCE Mathematics units
- 2 VCE VM Work Related Skills units
- 2 VCE VM Personal Development Skills units, and
- 2 VET credits at Certificate II level or above (180 nominal hours)
ATTENDANCE
Students undertake classes from 9.00 – 2.30 on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
Students must complete a enrolment interiew to determine course suitability. As Foundation College is an independent school, eligible students will exit their original school and formally enrol with us.
FURTHER PATHWAYS
Students completing the Victorian Pathways Certificate can continue on into the VCE Vocational Major for Years 11 and 12, can move on to other further education or into the workforce if they wish.
Students completing the first year (Year 11) of VCE VM can continue on to the second year (Year 12) of the VCE VM, can move on to further education or into the workforce if they wish. Students completing the second year (Year 12) of the VCE VM can move on to further education or into the workforce if they wish.
All applicants must complete the Expression of Interest form on our website and attend an enrolment interview with the Foundation College team before acceptance.

This will depend on a number of factors, including the time of year and the program. This will need further discussion, please contact us on 03 9704 7388 to chat about your young person’s individual circumstances.
No, all prospective students and their parent/guardian must attend an interview prior to enrolling. This process allows us to discuss a students individual learning needs, academic goals and any wellbeing concerns, ensuring that Foundation College is going to be the right place for the student.
Students are provided with school laptops during each class to complete their work, which are to be returned at the end of each class. Class sets of stationary are provided in each classroom for student use as required.
Students will need to bring their morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea with them, as well as a drink bottle.
Students at Foundation College do not have a specific school uniform. Students are asked to wear clothes that are appropriate for a school environment, and consider the weather. Students are asked not to wear clothing that contains profanity, offensive imagery, excessive rips or holes, clothes that are too short or revealing or clothes that interfere with the students ability to do their school work.
